Brief. A coastal house was severely damaged by a hurricane in 2021. The project restores the ground level and adds a rear oriented lookout module. The scope includes structural repair, flood resilient detailing, and hurricane rated envelope components that tie into the existing grid.
My role. I led the design of the lookout extension, while the rest of the team focused on the exact reconstruction of the existing residence through a clear floor path, lateral bracing, and corrosion aware connections. Because sourcing on the island was challenging, we completed pricing and lead times from suppliers in nearby Central American countries and Florida to secure suitable lumber, hardware, and envelope components within schedule and budget.
In addition, I explored the form through physical models and 3D studies. I produced a final scale model and a coordinated digital model to take on site, which improved communication with the crew, clarified assembly sequencing, and tightened tolerance checks. I structured delivery in clear stages—from concept trials to prototype joints and then to shop drawings, fabrication and installation could proceed with minimal rework. The module itself follows a repetitive truss logic, paired with a calibrated set of side tensioners that I used to tune stiffness and limit drift while preserving views and a light, coastal expression.
